uffizi gallery verone sull'arno

Temporary exhibition that hosts three monumental sculptures. The Medici Vase is in the centre it is a bell-shaped krater, made by a neo-Attic workshop, in the centre; it dates back to the second half of the first century B.C. and its quality and size are exceptional, decorated with bas-relief scenes depicting a Achaean heros consulting the oracle of Delphi prior to leaving for Troy.

At the far ends of the Verone there are two imposing bronze statues: Mars Gravidus, by Bartolomeo Ammannati, which represents the god of war striding naked at the head of the army, and Silenus with young Bacchus, by Giacomo del Duca, also known as Jacopo del Duca, a work derived from a Roman statue, now at the Louvre, a copy, in turn of a bronze from the 4th century, perhaps by Lisippo. Both statues originally decorated the loggia of the Villa Medici.
